In the last couple years, we’ve seen several popular enterprise backup monitoring tools announce “End-of-Life” plans.
It’s incredibly dangerous to use tools that are no longer supported (See “Flirting with Disaster: Why Using EOL & EOSL Software Is a Bad Idea”), and many prudent organizations have been scrambling to find replacement solutions.

For now, here’s the market context:
Rocket Servergraph: Servergraph entered End of Support Life (EOSL) on May 31, 2024 and will reach End of Life (EOL) on May 31, 2025. Servergraph’s fall appears to be linked to their need to be specialized while part of a company with a very broad mandate (Rocket). Servergraph initially focused on IBM Spectrum Protect (Storage Protect), a legacy backup product, and failed to innovate to support new market leaders such as Veeam, Commvault, and Rubrik.
Veritas NetBackup OpsCenter: Veritas declared that NetBackup 10.0 would be the final version to include OpsCenter and OpsCenter Analytics. The end-of-support life (EoSL) for OpsCenter 10.0 aligns with that of NetBackup 10.0. Why the divestment from a monitoring tool that was used by so many NetBackup customers? It’s possible that lacking independence led to competing priorities (such as their core data protection solutions).
NetBackup IT Analytics: NetBackup IT Analytics – formerly Aptare – is going through a second phase of lost independence in a matter of a few years. The acquisition of Veritas’ enterprise data protection business by Cohesity in December 2024 has introduced uncertainty regarding the future of NetBackup IT Analytics. While Cohesity has expressed intentions to continue investing in Veritas’ products, whether that happens remains to be seen. Understandably, many customers are feeling skittish and seeking independent and innovative alternatives.
It is likely that the trend of phasing out legacy monitoring solutions is expected to continue as software providers continue to struggle with both the ebb and flow of market leadership (affecting the breadth of tools they must support) and competing internal priorities. In uncertain economic times, backup vendors are being forced to make tough decisions about where to channel their resources, and monitoring tools seem to be drawing the short straw all too often (especially versus a vendor’s core data protection products).

The Challenge: One of the largest American payment processing providers needed to find a replacement for NetBackup OpsCenter (which was being discontinued after NetBackup 10) to automate their PCI compliance efforts.
