Backup Administrators get an executive summary and can configure reporting rules

Kirkland, Wash.— Bocada, an enterprise data protection company, has announced the general availability of Bocada 8.5 that allows backup and restore managers to quickly generate custom reports, automatically discover and report on new backup clients, and simply configure rules for clients and client zoning. The new capabilities eliminate ongoing administrative tasks and provide the confidence that comes from knowing that all backups are included in reports. The release also includes an Executive Summary for simplified and consolidated executive reporting, support for the latest release of HP Data Protector, and a new plug-in for EMC Avamar.

Backup managers have to attend to many details in a backup operation from configuring new backup servers to identifying clients to include in data collection and reporting. For many, adding a new client requires updating reporting processes. Missing this step for a new client can lead to an incomplete view of the health of the backup operation. In addition, backup reporting is often too granular or too summarized and does not provide a view of both a business unit and enterprise level performance.

With the introduction of automated rules, Bocada 8.5 ensures that clients are categorized and assigned appropriately to users and zones. The new release allows backup managers to configure rules to automatically update reporting zones that may represent departments, business units or geographies for backup reporting. Automated rules in 8.5 mean that any time a new client is added to a backup environment the Bocada application identifies the client and assigns it to the appropriate zone. This release has also added an executive summary report that generates the right executive reports for the right time period and the right person.
