BOCADA ANNOUNCES NEW UNIFIED MANAGEMENT PLATFORM

Centralized management and reporting of multiple Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 servers

Bellevue, WA, November 12, 2007 - Today Bocada Inc, the pioneer and a leading provider of data protection management solutions announces an industry first with its Bocada Unified Management Platform for Microsoft Corp.’s newly released Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007, enabling customers to manage many Data Protection Manager 2007 servers from a single common platform.

“DPM 2007 has the potential to be another huge server success for Microsoft, but without the ability to have centralized control and management, large-scale adoption would be challenging at best. With the Bocada UMP that issue goes away. This is a big enabler for DPM 2007,” said Steve Duplessie, Founder and Senior Analyst at The Enterprise Strategy Group.

The Bocada UMP platform for Data Protection Manager 2007 enables backup, SQL Server, Office SharePoint Server or Exchange Server administrators and users to easily manage the protection and recovery of the Microsoft workloads being protected by DPM 2007.

Key features of Bocada UMP for Data Protection Manager 2007 include:

  • Global view into the DPM environment
    • Search and sort functionality
    • View status and details of DPM servers, Computers, and Protection Groups
    • View Disk Pool total, allocated and used space
  • Manage Backups on Multiple DPM Servers
    • Create / modify Protection Groups
    • Modify disk pool allocation
    • Manage tape media
  • End user restore via a web UI
    • Do not need to know which DPM server performed the actual backup
    • End user data is protected by a roles-based permissions model

“With Data Protection Manager 2007 we have dramatically increased the value of our offerings to large enterprises as we have moved to provide near real-time protection for critical workloads such as those for Exchange Server, Sharepoint Server and SQL Server,” said Marc Kamstrup-Braad, partner program manager at Microsoft Corp. “We’re very excited to see Bocada use their expertise and domain knowledge in the backup monitoring space to extend the existing feature set in DPM 2007. With the new Bocada management tools paired with DPM’s innovative features, our mutual customers will enjoy a wider array of enterprise data protection capabilities.”

Bocada will be demonstrating the beta version of the UMP alongside their recently enhanced Bocada Enterprise 5 platform that integrates Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007 data into the Company’s enterprise-class, heterogeneous data protection reporting solution at the Microsoft IT Forum in Barcelona Nov 12-15th. Bocada will be located in the System Center pavilion, booth #2.

“We are committed to collaborating with Microsoft to make DPM 2007 a huge success in the multi-billion dollar data protection and recovery market. Today, we’re providing centralized application management for data protection, and soon for the administrative workloads being protected. Customers are seeking end to end management of their critical information, and we’re excited to be working with Microsoft on the forefront to address this need”, said Drake Pruitt, president and CEO of Bocada.
