Data Protection Management Pioneer Analyzes Media Usage and Enables Operational Excellence
Bellevue, WA, April 17, 2007 - Bocada, Inc., the leading provider of data protection management software, today introduced Bocada Enterprise 5, the newest version of award-winning data protection management software that provides IT and data protection teams with the insights necessary to continuously advance the effectiveness of data protection operations. This new version includes a number of significant enhancements including in-depth media and drive utilization analysis, enhanced data collection functionality, an updated GUI, an upgrade to SQL 2005 and a new modular architecture enabling rapid development in response to customer's data protection technology enhancements.

New Media Module Technology Provides Revolutionary Visibility
Bocada Enterprise 5 helps data protection departments better achieve operational excellence with industry-leading technology; including the launch of a new media module to better assess drive and library utilization, capacity, health and occupancy. In an effort to better serve the 90% of companies that continue to utilize tape in their data storage environment, the updated product supports in-depth media and drive reporting for TSM, NetBackup and NetWorker. The media module helps data protection managers understand drive and library utilization to better balance loads and reduce unnecessary capital expenditures, and reduce risk by identifying media that must be migrated for regulatory and BC/DR purposes.
The unique occupancy reports identify the amount of capacity required to support current data protection policies, tracking the amount of copies being stored on both disk and tape for the protection of a server, application or department. Visibility to this information can help users determine if data is over or under protected and is essential for accurate charge back reporting.
Initial customer feedback validates that the reports are invaluable for understanding media utilization and capacity use. Previously, the only way to obtain this information was through manually exporting application data into a spreadsheet which was tedious and time-consuming. By utilizing Bocada Enterprise 5, customers can now easily see the data, and trend it by server, client, storage pool, schedule and line of business.
